Below is an old article about Spring Creek Church
Spring Creek First Congregational Methodist Church
For a number of years, the Spring Creek Congregational Methodist Church has appeared to be the most progressive C. M. Church in the South Missouri District Conference. The Spring Creek church building is the second oldest C. M. church in Howell County. On May 24, 1890, Sarah E. Smith and Allen Smith gave a Warranty Deed for a church building site, which is located about five miles west of West Plains on K Highway, to the Congregational Methodist Church. Trustees named in the deed were Dave H. Willis, George T. Walker, John Yakley, Triplett Pence, and successors in office in the Congregational Methodist Church. This deed was recorded June 28, 1890.
Prior to that time, the people of the community worshiped in the Blue Mound School house. The first school house was a little one-room log building with split log seats. Among the first settlers in this area were these men and their families: Jasper Long, George and James Montgomery, George Chesnut, John Wilson, the Wrights, the Parretts, the Langstons and the Rev. Ezekial Blanton. Rev. Blanton, Rev. J. D. Boles, Rev. S. T. Proffitt, Rev. D. C. Willis, Rev. James Sharp, Rev. E. E. Buck, and Rev. Howard Murphy.
There were no regular services at Spring Creek for a while prior to 1944. However, Brother Noah Wright attended the District Conference most every year, and he and Rev. I. D. Galloway painted the church house in 1943. With the assistance of Rev. D. C. Willis, work at Spring Creek was revived in 1944, and since that time interest in the church has made steady progress. This community has a good Sunday school and a youth group, mid-week Bible study, vacation Bible school and a mission work. The present pastor, Rev. Howard Murphy, is the first minister serving this church to preach each Sunday morning and evening and to help in the mid-week services. New class rooms have been added in a general remodeling of the building which is now electrically heated and has carpeted aisles. The church has a good choir, leaders and pianists, and the attendance is good in Sunday school and worship services.
